Brickwork, stone, flint and painted masonry cleaned by soft washing, with staining, carbon soiling and organic growth removed.

Brick, stone and flint walls hold moisture and grow algae, lichen and moss, particularly on the shaded elevations that are so common on period properties around Amersham, Beaconsfield and Old Windsor. Old lime mortar and soft handmade brick will not survive a pressure washer. We soft wash masonry, using a biocide and dwell time, and we treat listed and period buildings with the care they need.

What is included

  • Brickwork and handmade brick
  • Flint and natural stone
  • Painted and rendered masonry
  • Boundary and retaining walls
  • Carbon and traffic film removal
  • Period and listed property experience

Period and listed buildings

Soft brick and lime mortar are easily destroyed by pressure. Once the fired face of a handmade brick is gone, the brick starts to erode and there is no putting it back. We work on period property regularly and default to the gentlest method that will do the job, testing on an inconspicuous area first.

Organic growth against staining

Green and black growth is organic and responds to biocide. Carbon soiling from road traffic, rust runs from ironwork and efflorescence are all different problems with different treatments. We identify which you have at the survey rather than applying one product to everything and hoping.

Boundary and garden walls

Long boundary walls, retaining walls and flint walls are frequently forgotten and make a large difference to how a property presents. They are usually straightforward, quick and inexpensive relative to the visual improvement.
